Italy closes air and sea borders, suspends Schengen with Spain over Ceuta migrant crisis

Italy has imposed border checks on flights and maritime transport with Spain, temporarily suspending Schengen border-free rights. This decision follows a crisis in the Spanish North African enclave of Ceuta, where at least 60,000 migrants have crossed the border from Morocco over several days. Ceuta represents one of only two land borders shared between the European Union and Africa. The Italian government implemented these measures to respond to the significant influx of migrants into the region.
