A magnitude 6.8 earthquake shakes part of southern Japan but no tsunami detected

A powerful earthquake, registering between magnitude 6.8 and 7.1, struck Kumamoto on Japan's southern Kyushu island late Tuesday. The disaster caused buildings and bridges to collapse, including a partial collapse and reported explosion at an Aeon Mall. TSMC evacuated workers from its plant during the event.
