AI or Overhiring? Uber Targets Middle Management With 10% Cut to Workforce

Uber is laying off approximately 3,300 employees, representing 10% of its total workforce. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced this restructuring to reduce management layers by 20% and eliminate 50% of teams with only one or two members. The company aims to redirect investment toward delivery, ridesharing, and robotaxis. Some affected managers will transition to individual contributor roles, while staff more than seven layers below the CEO are being let go to streamline the organizational structure.
