AliExpress hit with record $629M EU fine over illegal products

The European Commission has imposed a record fine of €550 million, approximately $630 million, on Alibaba’s AliExpress. This penalty represents the largest enforcement action since the Digital Services Act came into force in 2022. The European Union issued the fine because the cross-border e-commerce platform failed to curb the sale of illegal, unsafe, and counterfeit products. The action targets the platform's long-standing failures to address these systemic issues within its online marketplace operations.
