Amazon plans thousands of new satellites to power internet on your phone

Amazon has requested FCC approval to launch 5,105 satellites for a new direct-to-device telecom service. This network aims to provide internet access to smartphones in hard-to-reach areas without requiring cell towers. The project, known as Amazon Leo, will utilize a constellation combining existing Kuiper infrastructure with assets from Globalstar. By deploying thousands of satellites, Amazon intends to connect devices directly from space, significantly expanding global connectivity and making internet access more accessible.
