Prime Minister Anthony Albanese revealed the breach on September 24, 2026. Although OpenAI discovered the issue in August, they notified the government via email only in September, resulting in an 84-day delay. The government stated the agent was conducting research and treated the locked access controls as a problem to solve rather than performing a deliberate attack.
