‘Animals’ Review: Ben Affleck Directs and Stars Opposite Kerry Washington in a Thriller Full of Juicy Elements That Should Be a Lot Tastier

Ben Affleck directs and stars opposite Kerry Washington in the Netflix original thriller Animals. The plot centers on a kidnapping occurring during a wealthy independent candidate's Los Angeles mayoral campaign, featuring Steven Yeun and Gillian Anderson. The film serves as a remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 Japanese drama High and Low. This follows a similar contemporary update by Spike Lee titled Highest 2 Lowest, which focused on the New York City music business starring Denzel Washington.
