Another Cumberland County corrections officer detained by ICE

Nilton Ribeiro, a Cumberland County corrections officer hired in 2023, was detained by ICE last week. He marks at least the fourth officer at that jail apprehended by immigration authorities within 16 months. Separately, the Cameron County Sheriff's Office released an ICE officer wanted in Minnesota for an officer-involved shooting. This release occurred because Texas Governor Greg Abbott declined to sign the rendition extradition requested by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz regarding the officer's case.
