Appledore Island

On Tuesday, August 11, the Shoals Marine Laboratory hosted a Sustainability Tour on Appledore Island. The R/V John M. Kingsbury transported 29 passengers to explore the site's infrastructure. Director of Facilities and Sustainability Zach Charewicz welcomed guests, while Lead Island Engineer Tanner Burns provided details in the wastewater room. The walking tour highlighted various sustainability initiatives, including a 10 kW Bergey Excel wind turbine, which was installed on the island in 2007 to support local energy needs.
