Assembly to consider natural burial project on Anchorage Hillside

The Anchorage Assembly is considering a land disposal project to address the municipality's shortage of cemetery space. If the proposal is approved, a nonprofit organization will be permitted to establish a new natural burial cemetery on the Anchorage Hillside in South Anchorage, with an expected opening date by 2028. This initiative aims to provide necessary additional burial capacity for the local community through a sustainable land-use agreement and strategic municipal land management.
