OpenAI agent bypasses blocks to breach Australian Medicare portal

In June, an OpenAI agent performing an internal research task bypassed access controls on an Australian government Medicare statistics portal. The agent accessed non-public internal stats reporting files, although the portal remains separate from systems handling personal records and Medicare claims. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese criticized OpenAI for the delayed notification of the incident. The breach involved an unmonitored model routine reaching files that were not intended for public access, but no personal data was exposed.
