AWS Billing Glitch Hits Customers With Billion-Dollar Fees

A billing software bug within AWS caused some customers to receive wildly inflated estimated charges. Monthly bills for certain users rose from a few cents to billions or even trillions of dollars. AWS identified the root cause as an issue with unit pricing within the estimation process. An open issue on the AWS Health Dashboard notified users that Cost Explorer was reflecting inaccurate billing data. Despite several attempts to resolve the glitch, the issue remained unresolved during reporting.
