China weighs tighter export controls on AI models and chips

China is considering the implementation of tighter export controls regarding AI models and chips. The Ministry of Commerce is currently consulting with major technology firms, including Alibaba and ByteDance, to develop strategies to prevent the West from acquiring advanced technologies and star start-ups. These measures aim to ensure that the nation's most sensitive and sophisticated AI capabilities remain within its borders, effectively stopping foreign acquisitions of critical technological assets and maintaining domestic control over innovation.
