Hilo reels after Hurricane Lala brings flooding, fierce winds

Hurricane Lala battered Hilo with intense winds and heavy rains on Saturday night, causing rivers to swell and flood roadways and homes. Powerful gusts toppled trees onto power lines, resulting in widespread power outages and road closures across the Big Island. Although the storm weakened to a tropical storm on Sunday without making landfall, its outer bands left significant damage. Cleanup efforts have now begun in Hawaii to address the submerged cars and debris left behind.
