20 dead and buildings collapsed after 7.4-magnitude earthquake shakes western Colombia

A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, resulting in at least 47 deaths and leaving others trapped under rubble. The disaster caused buildings to collapse in cities including Cali, Pereira, Quibdo, and Manizales. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter was 5 kilometers east of San José del Palmar. Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella announced he will personally oversee recovery efforts as authorities manage the devastation caused by the severe seismic event.
