Dear Abby: I've tried everything to involved my hermit dad in my family. When do I give up?

A daughter is struggling to involve her hermit father in family activities despite his expressed love for his grandchildren via texts. Although he communicates digitally and tells them he is proud, he consistently refuses to leave his house. This behavior has led him to miss numerous significant life events, including the daughter's wedding, her college graduation, and the majority of her children's milestones, leaving the family questioning how long they should continue chasing him.
