Federal ban on handgun sales for young adults cannot be enforced, DOJ finds

The Justice Department has concluded that the federal prohibition on licensed dealers selling handguns to law-abiding adults aged 18 to 20 is unconstitutional. According to a 49-page opinion from the Office of Legal Counsel, this restriction violates the Second Amendment. Consequently, the federal government cannot criminally enforce the ban, as young adults are included among the people whose right to keep and bear arms is protected under the law, rendering the current sales restriction unenforceable.
