DOJ files opening brief for appeal in Kilmar Abrego Garcia case

The DOJ has filed an opening brief with the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to revive a human smuggling case against Kilmar Abrego Garcia. The government accuses an Obama-appointed judge of improperly second-guessing prosecutors and intruding on executive authority. The case stems from a 2022 incident where a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper stopped Abrego Garcia and nine passengers, initially releasing him with a warning before he was later indicted for human smuggling charges.
