Don’t whitewash American history on the Fourth of July

The Fourth of July serves as a reminder of the hypocrisy highlighted in Frederick Douglass's 1852 speech, where independence was celebrated despite the existence of slavery. Today, Black Americans and their allies continue the fight to inject justice into the system to combat persistent economic and social discrimination. While setbacks occur, progress toward racial justice and equality persists, requiring a commitment to avoid whitewashing American history while actively pursuing systemic change for all citizens.
