Simultaneously, a community advocacy group has filed a lawsuit against the San Diego Police Department. The legal action alleges that the department is misclassifying officer misconduct complaints to bypass mandatory reviews by the independent Police Practices Commission, as stated by attorney Geneviéve Jones-Wright.
