Purple Heart

The Purple Heart features the profile of President George Washington, who established its precursor, the Badge of Military Merit, while serving as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. Recently, the Virginia War Memorial hosted a Purple Heart Day ceremony to honor fourteen recipients. During the event, some awardees shared their experiences through speeches, while others were accompanied by their families to mark the occasion and recognize the sacrifices made by the decorated military personnel.
