FDA Approves the First New Sunscreen Ingredient in 20 Years

The FDA has approved bemotrizinol, the first new sunscreen active ingredient added to the permitted list since the late 1990s. This broad-spectrum blocker protects against ultraviolet A and B rays and has been utilized in Europe for several years. According to an FDA release, the ingredient is characterized by low levels of absorption through the skin into the body, marking a significant update to sunscreen regulations after more than two decades of no new additions.
