TouchGrass FieldAgent: An Open-Source Field Companion Designed for Zero Screen Time

TouchGrass FieldAgent is an open-source companion created for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge to eliminate screen dependency during outdoor activities. By utilizing open-weight models like Google Gemma and a deterministic contract architecture, the system replaces unstructured LLM text with strict JSON schemas. This two-layer control plane processes ambient sensor data to provide immediate safety checks and action plans, reducing cognitive load and improving privacy and security by avoiding commercial ad-tracking in hazard-prone environments.
