Hurricane Lala strengthens as Hawaii faces first potential Big Island hit in 155 years

Hurricane Lala has strengthened into a Category 1 storm as it approaches Hawaii's Big Island. Governor Josh Green declared a state of emergency due to threats of life-threatening flooding, mudslides, and dangerous winds. Higher elevations near Mauna Kea could receive up to 25 inches of rain. This rare event may be the first direct hurricane strike on the island in 155 years. Consequently, several flights from LAX to Hawaii, including Kona and Honolulu, have been canceled.
