Former marine detained in Russia released, Markey says

Robert Gilman, a former U.S. Marine from Massachusetts, has been released from Russia after more than four years of detention on disputed charges. The State Department confirmed his release on humanitarian grounds, noting he was recently determined to have been wrongfully detained. Advocates reported that Gilman suffered severe abuse in prison, including a 47-day dissociative stupor. Following his release, Gilman was transported to a U.S. military hospital in Texas for medical treatment after being gravely ill.
