Google Sues Chinese Smishing Network Accused of Using Gemini AI in Phishing

Google is pursuing legal action against a Chinese cybercrime network known as Outsider Enterprise. The operation allegedly weaponized the Gemini AI agent to send phishing text messages to Americans, impersonating brands to steal passwords and credit card numbers. Using a phishing-as-a-service kit called Outsider, the group deployed 9,000 fake websites and 1 million fraudulent domains. This massive campaign sent 2.5 million texts to Android users, scamming hundreds of thousands of victims with millions in losses.
