Google disrupts NetNut proxy network used in malware operations

Google's Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG), collaborating with the FBI and Lumen, has significantly degraded the NetNut residential proxy network. Also tracked as Popa, this network converted millions of home devices into rented relays for external traffic, facilitating malware operations. Through these joint efforts, Google successfully reduced the pool of usable devices by millions, disrupting a massive infrastructure that spanned approximately 2 million home devices to hinder the operational capabilities of the proxy network.
