Google says schools that opt out of AI tools will also lose access to search

Google will disable Gemini, Gemini Notebook, and Gemini in Classroom for K-12 students by default unless administrators opt in. However, schools that choose to restrict AI entirely will also lose student access to Google Search. Google executives state that Search and AI are now deeply integrated, making this an all-or-nothing policy. This decision aims to provide educators and parents more control, though it forces schools to weigh AI integration against losing essential search tools.
