Guinea-Bissau Tidal Waters

Images acquired on November 28, 2025, via the Landsat 8 OLI show the Bijagós Archipelago in Guinea-Bissau. Twice daily, tides flow through mangrove forests, sandy channels, and mudflats surrounding 88 islands and islets. Low tidal waters expose extensive sandflats and mudflats, creating critical habitats for various invertebrates. These coastal landforms serve as essential stopover locations for migratory shorebirds, while the ebb and flow process causes stark, visible changes to the regional landscape.
