Heart Attack or Broken Heart? A New Blood Score May Tell the Difference

Researchers have developed the BioTAK blood score to distinguish broken heart syndrome from heart attacks. This new test combines biological sex with specific blood biomarkers to identify the condition, potentially sparing patients from invasive cardiac catheterization. In a validation study involving nearly 1,800 patients, the BioTAK score demonstrated high efficacy, correctly classifying almost 90% of participants. Some reports indicate the test can reach 0.97 accuracy, providing a critical tool for clinicians to differentiate these similar cardiac events.
