Google built a portable AI translator that works offline, and you can build one too

Google and its Antigravity team developed a prototype AI translator that operates entirely offline using a Raspberry Pi 5. This device utilizes Gemma 4 E2B, the smallest model within Google's open-weight family, to process speech locally without requiring any cloud connection. The hardware consists of a microphone and speaker housed inside a custom 3D-printed enclosure. This project showcases the on-device capabilities of Gemma, demonstrating that users can build their own portable AI translation tools.
