IBM says it has created the world's first sub-1 nanometer chip

IBM has unveiled the world's first sub-1 nanometer chip technology, introducing a revolutionary transistor architecture at the 0.7 nm or 7 angstrom node. This breakthrough addresses physical limits of traditional chip scaling. The new semiconductor packs nearly 100 billion transistors onto a fingernail-sized chip, representing nearly twice the density of the 2 nm chip IBM debuted in 2021. These components are critical for computing, communication devices, transportation systems, appliances, and various essential infrastructure systems.
