On September 23, 1975, Mike Cohen, Toba, Mrs. J.E. Cohan, and Barbara Christensen exited the final car of the Freedom Train during its Omaha stop. Separately, Kountze Place served as a location for Victorian mansions built by wealthy doctors, lawyers, politicians, and businessmen in the 1880s and 1890s, who used streetcar lines for commuting. By the 1940s and 1950s, Kountze Place transitioned into a battleground as black families began moving into the area.
