Fifa confirms rainbow flags to be allowed at Egypt v Iran World Cup ‘Pride Match’

FIFA confirmed that rainbow flags will be permitted during the World Cup match between Egypt and Iran in Seattle. While the Seattle organising committee arranged LGBTQ+ festivities to coincide with Pride weekend, both the Iranian and Egyptian soccer federations expressed outrage. These nations lodged complaints with FIFA, requesting the removal of the Pride Match designation and all LGBTQ+ affiliations. FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that the planned festivities are separate from the match itself.
