Louisiana Democrat won’t run for reelection after redistricting

Rep. Cleo Fields (D-LA) announced Tuesday that he will not seek reelection to Congress in Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District or any other district. This decision follows GOP-led redistricting and the Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, which deemed the majority-black district an unconstitutional racial gerrymander. Consequently, Fields intends to run for the Louisiana state Senate instead of pursuing his House seat, which had become significantly more Republican due to the new congressional map.
