Luigi Mangione, the 28-year-old accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, will pursue a psychiatric defense in his state murder trial. Judge Gregory Carro announced that Mangione's lawyers intend to argue the defendant was suffering from an extreme emotional disturbance during the incident. This legal strategy aims to reduce the current murder charge to manslaughter, asserting that the Ivy League graduate from Maryland was in a compromised mental state when the shooting occurred.
