Police responding to south city deputy-involved shooting

On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, a St. Louis Sheriff's Deputy was involved in a shooting in the 3700 block of Meramec St. Police stated the incident began when a man stole the deputy's running vehicle during the service of legal papers in the Dutchtown neighborhood. Meanwhile, in East St. Louis, a man was arrested and charged for the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Demonta L. Hunter, which occurred Sunday morning at 24th St. and Missouri Ave.
