Microsoft giveth and Microsoft taketh away: Copilot edition

Microsoft faced customer complaints in summer 2025 regarding Copilot being buggy and failing to automate work effectively in Excel and PowerPoint. To resolve these issues, Charles Lamanna proposed to CEO Satya Nadella that Microsoft should consider paying for AI models from Anthropic to improve Copilot performance. While this suggestion was initially viewed as heresy, it aimed to fix the assistant. Meanwhile, Copilot now supports Office documents but cannot create Outlook themes for users.
