Thinking Machines has launched Inkling, its first open source model, after spending a year and a half developing AI infrastructure privately. This 975-billion-parameter model is specifically trained to understand audio and video content. By releasing Inkling, the company aims to challenge the one-size-fits-all AI approach and establish a competitive position against major industry rivals such as OpenAI and Anthropic, providing a public proof point of its technical capabilities and strategic direction.
