More Than 100 Water Systems Were Hit In July Cyberattacks

CISA reports that over 100 internet-exposed U.S. water and wastewater systems were targeted in July. Attackers focused on programmable logic controllers connected directly to cellular modems, primarily affecting small, rural utilities across at least a dozen states, including Minnesota. While federal officials have not officially attributed the campaign to a specific group, it is widely suspected to be linked to Iran. CISA is now urging agencies to remove these PLCs from the public internet to prevent further intrusions.
