NASA’s Curiosity Mars Rover Discovers Field of Honeycomb Textures

NASA’s Curiosity rover discovered an expansive field of surface features known as polygons during sols 4,930 and 4,931 of its mission. While the rover previously encountered small patches of these geometric shapes, it has never found so many in one location. These honeycomb-like polygonal fractures, measuring approximately 1.5 to 3 inches across, were captured in 360-degree views as the rover climbed a Martian valley nicknamed Valle Grande, providing scientists with significant new terrain data.
