National Gallery studying Freedom 250 IndyCar vibrations’ impact on art

The National Gallery of Art has conducted an extensive vibration study to evaluate the impact of the Freedom 250 GrandPrix on its collection. As part of the semiquincentennial celebration, IndyCar racecars will reach speeds of 185 mph on a 1.7-mile, seven-turn racecourse through downtown Washington, D.C. The study focuses on how these high-speed vehicles racing near historic museums and the gallery will affect the safety and preservation of the District's most historic artifacts.
