No criminal charges in death of Nolan Wells, grand jury finds

A grand jury in Pascagoula, Miss., determined there was insufficient evidence to bring criminal charges regarding the death of Nolan Wells, a Black teen. Following this review, Attorney Ben Crump conducted a press conference on July 22, 2026, in Chicago with the parents of the deceased, Elmore Wonsley and Christine Wells-Wonsley. The legal proceedings concluded that no criminal charges would be filed in the case, as the grand jury found no evidence to support them.
