OpenAI launched Computer History for the ChatGPT macOS desktop app, recording clicks, keystrokes, keyboard shortcuts, and app switches. This feature builds a searchable timeline that ChatGPT and Codex use to suggest automations and complete unfinished tasks. While enhancing productivity through context-aware assistance, the tool stores memory files locally as unencrypted plain text, raising privacy concerns. Currently, the feature is unavailable in the UK, Switzerland, and the EEA, focusing on learning user workflows to optimize assistance.
