Over 4,400 Rockwell PLCs Exposed Online, 22 Found in Water Attack Cities

Forescout's August 3 scan identified 4,407 internet-facing Rockwell Automation PLCs globally, with 2,844 located in the United States. Notably, 22 controllers were found in US cities that reported cyberattacks on water utilities since July 27, and 19 of these utilized the same mobile carrier network. While these devices are exposed to the public internet, Forescout could not confirm if any were compromised. The total count refers to individual controllers rather than specific utilities or victims.
