Pentagon picks Lockheed, nLIGHT for laser defense project

The Pentagon has selected Lockheed Martin and nLIGHT to develop a 500-kilowatt laser weapon system, the most powerful ever integrated into a shipping container, to neutralize cruise missiles and drone swarms. This system aims to protect American forces and the homeland. Separately, the German Navy has appointed MBDA and Rheinmetall to develop its own laser weapon system. These strategic awards highlight a significant advancement in high-energy laser defense technology for both nations.
