Pentagon’s Emil Michael Vows Export Controls if AI Labs Don’t Cooperate With Government

Emil Michael, a senior Department of Defense official and member of President Trump’s super intelligence task force, stated that the US government may utilize export controls against AI labs that refuse to cooperate. Michael, the Pentagon’s chief technology officer, compared labs seeking regulation to drunk drivers. He has previously pushed for the Defense Department to designate Anthropic as a supply chain risk following the company's refusal to remove specific safety guardrails from its AI systems.
