DHS watchdog: Immigrants held in outdoor cages the size of phone booths at ‘Alligator Alcatraz’

A new report from the Department of Homeland Security inspector general reveals that some immigrant detainees at the now-shuttered Alligator Alcatraz facility in Florida were confined in outdoor cages. These cages were described as being only slightly larger than telephone booths. According to the findings, detainees were held in these restrictive outdoor enclosures for periods ranging from more than one hour up to two hours, highlighting the specific conditions present at the closed detention site.
