Rheinmetall, MBDA to develop laser weapon for German Navy

Rheinmetall and MBDA are collaborating to develop a high-energy laser weapon system for the German Navy, aiming for operational deployment by 2029. On July 9, 2026, the BAAINBw signed a contract with the ARGE HEL working group, which consists of MBDA Deutschland and Rheinmetall Waffe. This partnership focuses on the development of a high-energy laser naval demonstrator to enhance the defensive and offensive capabilities of the German Navy's fleet within the specified timeframe.
