Rising Over Louisiana

On August 27-28, 2026, a deep partial lunar eclipse occurred, visible across North and South America, Europe, and Africa. At the peak of the event at 12:13 a.m. EDT, 96.3% of the Moon's disk entered Earth's umbra, creating a dark, ruddy or coppery tint. The phenomenon was observed over southern Louisiana, near New Orleans, where NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility produces SLS rocket stages and Orion spacecraft structures for the ongoing Artemis missions.
